A full detailed video of non-stop drive by myself from Hutatma Chowk Neral (Foothill of Matheran) to Dasturi Car Park.
Matheran is one of the smallest hill stations in India and it's known for its breathtaking views and quaint ambiance. No vehicles are allowed in Matheran, which makes getting to town all the more special. Matheran which means "forest on the forehead" (of the mountains) in Marathi, is an eco-sensitive region, declared by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. It is Asia's only automobile-free hill station. Located in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, the road from Neral to Matheran is a very challenging drive. The road is 8,9km (5,5 miles) long, running from Neral, a town in Raigad district at an elevation of 40 m (130 ft) above the sea level to Matheran, a hill station and a municipal council at 800 m (2,600 ft) above the sea level. The road is totally paved and features hairpin turns and curves. If you don't want to drive it, there are many share taxis that take tourists in hoards right up to Matheran. This serpentine road will send your heart to your mouth for sure! The road, that goes up to Matheran from Neral, is as smooth as butter. But you cannot speed up due to its narrowness. You've got to be really careful with the wheels because of narrow road conditions that could test the patience of even the most seasoned drivers. But you really deserve a medal if you've driven on the road.
So Wear your seatbelts, watch and join with me for an amazing drive amongst the green forests above the clouds.
