As a three year old, your child is soaking in as much information as she can – and faster than ever before. (My three year old would be in the playroom and chime in on people’s conversations happening in the kitchen! So be warned: they’re always listening and understanding!) Here are some things to work on from the third to fourth year:
• Naming and recognizing some colors and numbers
• Solving problems independently
• Developing a sense of time – so get out the clock (which will really help in the morning)
• Growing imagination – you’ll see her fantasy play develop, so embrace this.
• Telling and recalling stories
Support your toddler as his cognitive abilities grow by reading and talking to her. Be fun and adventurous with her imagination. And let her count and describe the things around her.
And remember – all kids develop at different speeds. So try not to compare your child’s skills with others. If you’re at all concerned, call your pediatrician.
