On December 27, the Shanghai Airport Link Line officially opened. This new railway connects Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport in just 40 minutes. It also includes a station serving the Disney Resort, making it very convenient for tourists. However, access to the city center is still inconvenient, so it may not see much use for this purpose yet. Once Metro Line 19 opens, transfers at Sanlin South Station could make it more useful.
In this video, I traveled from Hongqiao Airport Station to Pudong Airport Station. After that, I rode from Pudong Airport Station to Jinghong Road Station and tested transferring to Metro Line 15. The transfer took 15 minutes, including a 10-minute outdoor walk. Additionally, there are nearly 10 stops from Jinghong Road Station on Line 15 to the city center, making this route unsuitable for central city travel. For now, if you are heading from Pudong Airport to the city center on the west side, it’s smoother to take the Airport Link Line directly to Hongqiao Airport. Alternatively, you can stick with the traditional route using the Maglev and Metro Line 2.

▶The Shanghai Airport Link Line (上海轨道交通市域线机场联络线)
The Shanghai Airport Link Line (City Airport Line) is a new railway line that opened on December 27, 2024. This line connects Shanghai's Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport, allowing for direct travel between the airports without passing through the city center. The line spans a total length of 68.6 km with a maximum speed of 160 km/h. It includes seven stations: Hongqiao Terminal 2 Station, Zhongchun Road Station, Jinghong Road Station, Sanlin South Station, East Kangqiao Station, Shanghai International Resort Station, and Pudong Terminals 1 & 2 Station. The Shanghai International Resort Station is the closest station to Shanghai Disney Resort, and it is expected to become an important hub for tourists.
Trains operate across the entire route and stop at all stations. The trains run approximately every 14 minutes between Hongqiao Terminal 2 Station and Pudong Terminals 1 & 2 Station. The fare for travel between these two stations is 26 yuan. The Shanghai Public Transportation Card can be used for payment.
The opening of the Shanghai Airport Link Line has greatly improved transportation between the two airports. It provides an efficient and convenient travel option for tourists and business travelers visiting Shanghai.
