Gameplay of the unplayable character/NPC MK1 Shang Tsung in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.

[Shang Tsung has no useable moves, so I just gave him MK2 Shang Tsung’s moves.]

MK1 Shang Tsung has no moves of his own, but curiously enough has no issues when using MK2 Shang Tsung’s moveset. As a result, this is the most legit way to play as MK1 Shang Tsung as of this time of writing, when you think about it.

MK1 Shang Tsung has always been a huge curiosity to me, and I’m glad they bothered to actually show in this game how he regressed into his younger self. Mind you, this game is more or less “Mortal Kombat: Filling in the gaps: the Game”. MK1 Shang Tsung was always such a curiosity, given his ability to effortlessly change into other characters on a whim (even jumping into mid-air), having special moves of his own, and having barely anything in the way of sprite animation, being in a way hilariously barebones, and yet so enjoyable to fight in MK1 because of how he never really appeared again in that form, bar MK9 of course.

MK1 Shang Tsung is probably viable in the same way that MK2 Shang Tsung is. Also, you have to love Raiden badmouthing Shang Tsung in the intro while both Shang Tsungs watch. Apparently Raiden needs to go to Specsavers. Actually, an MK1 and MK2 Shang Tsung Ko-Op playthrough would be surprisingly badass. Ah, the joys of boss-hacking.

Next up, we move onto the cameos, starting with the weirdest of them.
