🍎 Tanners Orchard Field Trip | Homeschool Adventures in Speer, Illinois! 🍏

Join us on a delightful adventure as we visit Tanners Orchard in Speer, Illinois with our grandkids' homeschool group! Our field trip was an exciting mix of education and fun, exploring the orchard and learning the secrets of apples and apple cider.

🌳 The Rich History of Tanners Orchard:
The Tanner family has been dedicated to apple growing for generations. It all started in 1906, when the Tanner family left Switzerland for the new world and planted their roots in Deer Creek, Illinois. Eventually, John Tanner, the seventh of eleven children, took the helm and began running the orchard. By 1947, John relocated the family orchard to an 80-acre property near Speer, Illinois, boasting 20 acres of well-established apple trees, conveniently located next to Old Route 88. Today, Tanners Orchard is run by the fourth generation of Tanner fruit growers and has been in its current location for over 75 years.

📚 Highlights of Our Visit:

Orchard Tour: We took a picturesque tour through the orchards, learning about the different varieties of apples. The kids had a blast exploring the grounds and discovering how apples are grown.

Apple & Cider Education: Tanners Orchard provided an insightful look into the lifecycle of apples and how they are transformed into delicious, fresh cider. It was fascinating to see the process up close!

Farm Market Shopping: After the tour, we strolled through the farm market, which was bursting with fresh produce, homemade jams, unique gifts, and delightful treats. The kids loved picking out some goodies to take home!

Apple Bin Bakery: We couldn't resist the mouthwatering aromas coming from the "Apple Bin Bakery." We indulged in scrumptious snacks and baked goods that were simply irresistible. The apple cider donuts were a favorite!
