The Truth About Gear I No Longer Use.

In this video, Jason takes a deep dive into the gear he no longer carries on his hikes and in his get-home bag, explaining why he's decided to leave certain items behind. His goal is to create a more efficient, lightweight, and practical kit that better suits real-world scenarios.

One of the first items Jason's removed is the non-breathable emergency bivvy bag. While it seemed like a good idea at first, he found that it caused me to sweat excessively, which could lead to discomfort and even danger in colder conditions. Next up is the LifeStraw. Though it's a popular choice for many, He realized it’s not versatile enough for my needs, limiting my ability to purify water in various situations. The Swiss Army Knife, despite being a classic tool, didn’t make the cut either. It turned out to be too bulky and heavy, and its durability didn’t hold up as well as I’d hoped.

He also decided to stop carrying my Garmin GPS device. While technology can be helpful, I've learned to rely on other navigation methods that are more reliable and don’t require batteries. In most cases, the GPS simply wasn’t necessary. Similarly, I’ve removed the axe from my kit. Although it’s useful for some tasks, it's too heavy and not essential for most emergency situations. His final cut was the CamelBak hydration pack. While convenient, it made me sweat excessively, which could lead to dehydration and other risks in an emergency.
