Ingredients

6 tbsp brown sugar - the darker, the better
3 tbsp peanut butter - smooth - you can use 2 tbsp min.
3 tbsp water
1 tbsp cornstarch/cornflour
2 tbsp gochujang
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp browning - optional
1 ½ tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
1/2 tsp sesame oil
pinch of pepper

Add 2 tbsp honey, optional.

This hoisin sauce recipe should last about 1 to 2 weeks when stored in an airtight container in the fridge. The vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar act as mild preservatives, but because they contain water and peanut butter, they won't keep as long as commercial versions.
