Reforesting Goa - Planting trees on Goa's tough laterite terrain. Vriksh Foundation x Goa University

Описание к видео Reforesting Goa - Planting trees on Goa's tough laterite terrain. Vriksh Foundation x Goa University

With rapid urbanization Goa faces the specter of denuded landscapes. Hills & plateaus which naturally stayed green & rejuvenated themselves every monsoon, now struggle to recover from the hard blows of rapid, large-scale construction. The scars of urbanization and commercial development get deeper every year and do not get a chance to heal.

In the face of this challenge, it is important to fortify existing green sanctuaries and create new ones, to serve as a template for a balanced ecosystem.

Jointly with Goa University, Vriksh Foundation identified areas on campus where reforestation activity could be carried out by planting saplings suited to Goa's lateritic terrain, such as:

1. Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)
2. Indian crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica)
3. Taman, Queen crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia speciosa)
4. Yellow flame tree (Peltophorum pterocarpum)
5. Fish tail palm (Caryota mitis)
6. Banyan (Ficus benghalensis)
7. Peepal (Ficus religiosa)
8. Ashoka (Saraca asoca)
9. Jamun (Sygizuim cumini)
10. Kokum (Garcinia indica)
11. Imli (Tamarindus indica)

Support us in identifying more areas in and around Goa where we can carry out tree plantation activity.

If you need support or saplings to add to the green cover around you, please reach out to us, preferably via email: vriksh.org [at the rate] gmail [dot] com

We'd also love to hear from you if you'd like to join-in and volunteer for the cause.
