Quilts, while practical, are also incredible works of art. Quilting became popular in New England in the late 18th century with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. More reasonably priced textiles allowed quilting styles in New England to evolve constantly throughout the 19th century, often in conjunction with other decorative arts trends. The Old Sturbridge Village quilt collection spans from the late 18th century to the late 19th century and allows for a broad view of the evolution and variety of quilting techniques. Join Collections Manager and Curator of Textiles, Rebecca Beall, and Program Coordinator, Jean Contino, to learn about a selection of quilts from this collection and the women who made them.
