Today we are checking out the RYOBI Expand-It Gutter Blower Attachment!

Now the blower attachment does wonders for those of you that despise cleaning their gutters, but I will warn you right off the bat. If you haven’t cleaned your gutters in a while, you will need to get them cleaned out as this blower just won’t be able to get rid of all the caked-on debris you’ve neglected over the months. Incorporate this blower into your yard maintenance schedule and you will have great results.

I have my gutters at about 8 feet high and was able to use the blower comfortably without the need of extensions. You get two 36” extension rods included in this kit.

I let my gutters get pretty filled up to really test this gutter blower. I’m talking a full season worth of leaves and pine straw and a couple of rains to get a real life feel for what this guy can do. With that being said, the blower couldn’t do much of anything for the compacted debris that was in the gutter. It was able to somewhat blow off the top layer of dried leaves, but even that was difficult for the unit as it couldn’t get the air under the leaves to lift and move the leaves due to the caked layer on the bottom.
A significant portion of my gutter was filled with pine needles, which due to their lean shape and size they just didn’t catch the air needed to be moved.
I moved over to another gutter that I had cleaned before hand which had a minimal amount of leaf debris, and the blower did significantly better. One of my pain points with this unit was that a lot of the debris kept getting stuck on the gutter cross support braces, preventing the debris from going any further. After a few tests, I found that rocking the blower side to side as well as forward and back just behind the support beam would allow a lot of the debris to become unstuck.

The unit works at what it is intended to do, but it’s aimed at being something that needs to be a part of your yard maintenance schedule to prevent build up in your gutters, because once those gutters fill up, this blower just doesn’t have the power to really get everything out.

Using the unit was simple. It was just a matter of hooking it up to an xpand-it power head and pulling the trigger. To clean your gutters, you start at the right end of your gutter and make your way across to the left as the blower only blows in one direction forcing all the debris to the end of the gutter. Now the problem is, when you get to the end of the gutter, all that debris will shoot straight up, landing on the roof, yourself, and the floor area around you. Which means that the debris on the roof will fall right back into the gutter down the line, you will be having to clean yourself up significantly when you’re done and then you also must get your blower to clean up the floor area. But then again, this is quicker and easier than having to get on a ladder and emptying out your gutters by hand.

Just make sure you have a good 40v power head and a fresh battery for maximum blowing power.
