The stainless steel of the new Tesla Cybertruck is very prone to oily fingerprints and very tedious to clean and maintain, this is the reason many Cybertruck owners are wrapping their Cybertruck or applying PPF.
Wraps and PPF are a great option but they are not cheap at all and you will need to replace them about every 5 years, also they need to be maintained like anything else. One cheaper solution that might help with the fingerprint problem SPECIFICALLY is to apply a metal ceramic coating.
A traditional ceramic coating (i.e. si02 or polysilazane) is not recommended and does not go well with the stainless steel of the Tesla Cyber truck. The first problem you may encounter when applying a traditional ceramic coating is that the trajectory lines in which you applied the coating remain visible even after you level off the coating. The second issue is that the stainless steel will darken its appearance and turn slightly orange and or brown which distorts the original appearance of the stainless steel. Therefore it is recommended to apply a ceramic coating that is specific for raw metals like stainless steel so that the appearance of the cyber truck will not change and the coating will cure without leaving any visible lines or the like. In this video we explain the process we took to try to have a totally even and flush finish throughout the entire truck and afterwards apply the ceramic coating. Trying to prep and perfect the finish of the stainless steel and the overall look of the completed product was very difficult and various inconveniences arose. Needless to say this application took a lot of elbow grease and trail and error, and we hope you learned something and this helps you out also. Afterwards we felt more confident about the process whenever we have to coat another cyber truck.
