It is in the roots where the trees greatest strength lies. Our strength lies in our foundation, our roots, our fa'avae as Samoans. "Our ancestors wrote our histories on the landscape and the seascape; carved, stencilled, tattooed and wove our stories."

The tallest trees with the strongest roots were used to carve out the va'a folau, the proverbial va'a folau that we row together in as Samoans.

Va sau le va'a na tiu, tau mai i le va'a na tau ae o lo'o mamau pea lago o le va'a na fau afolau.
