"Kisatchie National Forest Bald Eagle Cam nests are over 100 feet off the ground in the tops of Loblolly Pine trees near the shore of Kincaid Lake, Evangeline Unit, Calcasieu Ranger District, Kisatchie National Forest, Rapides Parish, central Louisiana.

Nest E-1 is located in the Kincaid Lake Recreation Area. The nest was used by the same pair from at least 2002 until late 2019. During those years that female began laying eggs in early February and the young fledged by early to mid-June. That pair averaged two chicks per year through 2013.

In 2013 the nest was apparently abandoned for an alternate nest on the lake. However, the pair continued to occasionally perch on the nest until it began to deteriorate in January 2016. Within 5 months it completely fell out of the tree. After this, the pair quickly rebuilt in their original nest location and once again began taking up residence, but never laid an egg.

In late 2019, early 2020, a different newly mature pair of eagles took over the nest, built it up, but did not lay eggs. These birds returned to the nest the next breeding season and in mid-January 2021, laid their first egg. This pair was christened Louis and Anna and fledged young in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In December 2023, Anna laid an egg but on December 31 she succumbed to a mysterious illness and died.

Chaos ensued following Anna’s death, with several male and female eagles jockeying for possession of the nest. Louis left, Anna’s egg did not hatch, and a new pair was formed and secured the nest and territory. In 2025, the nest was built up, but no eggs were laid. When an egg is laid the new pair will be christened Louis II and Anna II, in the manner of kings and queens."
