Pacing In Multiplayer Games

Описание к видео Pacing In Multiplayer Games

Ever been playing a really fast paced game or gamemode like Deathmatch.tf and thought,
Wow, this is so much fun, why isn't every game mode in every game like this?
Well me too, and I found a few answers but many came back to the central idea of pacing.
Things like a lack of tension, burnout, etc.

I came to find that game developers spend a lot of time trying to tune multiplayer pacing, but no one talked about it yet.

So I know a few people were wondering how I research for vids like this, aside from just playing and analyzing games myself.
For this video specifically I watched and read a lot about pacing in literature as well as the essence of pacing in works of media, and then implementing those ideas into video games.
I then remembered back to the developer commentaries Valve did in their games.
There's a lot of nuggets of wisdom in there but the way they talked about pacing (specifically in the context of tf2) solidified my opinions and in the end I added one of the few bits about pacing that really fit what I was talking about (the ubercharge one), I didn't feel like just paraphrasing since I don't think I could've said it better myself.

Anyway that was most of what I did for research for this vid specifically.
