I booked myself a spot on the shuttle and headed back into Diamondhead for a ride at my current local. The Shuttle takes you much further to the top than I have been so far with pedaling but there is only a couple of trail options from the top so unless you're heading up in the shuttle it seems a little pointless to pedal up there. Epic times in the shuttle though. Had a chat with a couple of fellow shredders before dropping into the first trail of my day, Meadow of the Grizzly.
This blue flow trail is in places, far from blue levels. It's a sick combination of flowing turns, step down jumps, fast straights, and massive water ruts haha The weather has not been kind to the top section of the trail. Washing away a lot of the dirt, revealing more and more rocks, as well as creating sort of canyon down part of the trail. I cruised down the trail enjoying what it had to offer along with the view from all the way up the top. Squamish truly is a beautiful place and I would love to live here full time one day. A mistake near the bottom in the open section where I missed a turn. But event free otherwise.
Next up I pedaled my way over to Angry Midget, unfortunately for me, a trail running race was using Angry Midget so I kept heading across to another fun one that is Ditch Pig. The second time I have ridden this trail now. It was fun to try and piece together some sections I fumbled my way through the first time. Finding smooth sections and places to hop, and rest to make my ride as smooth and fast as possible. Bike was feeling a bit funky to start this trail, I thought something might have come lose, a quick check over and I found nothing, must just be wiggling around on the rocks, a stark difference from the roots and heroic, golden, sandy dirt that is in the hills of Rotorua. This is such a sick trail with the level of riding being right up my alley, challenging enough that you can't pin it but fast enough it doesn't feel stop, start and pinchy. Epic section of the hill. I enjoyed this side every time I've ridden it so far.
Up 3rd we have Hybrid! Another first for me, the single black trail delivers! Double jumps, chutes, rocks, wooden bridges, and a wicked double black option section near the end. This is a fun trail, I enjoyed the wooden features and option lines to jump around the trail a bit, attempting to make it smooth and uninterrupted.
From Hybrid I kept going straight on into Lowdown to finish the straight run off. Lowdown is a blue trail with a few fun jumps and fast berms. It is fairly short lived and criss crosses with Throwdown as it jumps over your head.
A big pedal up and across to a side of the bike park I haven't been anywhere near yet. A black trail named Fred that was a mixture of technical cross country, roots and rocks, climbs and pinches as well as an epic section of single track downhill in the second 2/3s of the trail. I was doing my best to keep my feet on the pedals, trying to keep my balance as best I could. I few dabs in the slow bits but managed to keep it together in the faster pieces of trail. Fred was also being used to the Trail running race, I was fortunate enough to beat the runners over there as it was nearing the end of the run, so I had the trail to myself still! Wrapped.
Tinder was up next, it starts right across from Fred and is a blue multidirectional trail. A lot of suffering and climbing up technical rocks, steep sections and loose dirt. It is a bit of a bitch of a trail and I'm not too much in a hurry to head back to it.
Happy Hairy Clam splits off of Tinder to head where I wanted to go, a brutal climb trail that took some beating haha! Riding I'm glad I've experienced but not in a hurry back over there.
This lead me to ABC DH, a very short black single track that has a couple of fun rock rolls and jumps. Fairly simple little trail but you can tell it's much less ridden than the previous trails I had been on over the main part of the park side.
This brings me to the penultimate down hill for my ride! I start off on Your Mom, for a very very short run to the start of Deliverance. My first attempt at a full double black trail since arriving in Squamish. Believe it or not, Deliverance delivers. This trail is so sick, scary, steep, rough and fun. I had such a good time trying to stay on my bike and focusing on making it down in one piece. The first wooden drop had me stopped for a quick look but from there on in I was committed to getting to the bottom.
So EPIC!!
YEW!
Enjoy!
