Porcupine Ridge in Kananaskis had been on my hiking list for years, but I kept putting it off—partly because of the multiple stream crossings (I didn’t want wet feet!) and partly because I assumed it wasn’t anything special. I was wrong… partially…

Yes, I DID end up slipping on a log and getting my feet soaked while crossing the stream, but the hike itself was absolutely worth it. From steep forest climbs and fun scrambly sections to the mind-blowing views along the ridge, Porcupine Ridge completely surprised me. The ridge had a calm, peaceful energy—despite the wild gusts of wind that almost knocked us off balance.
Because of the shorter autumn days and over four hours drive home, we couldn’t complete the very last stretch of the ridge. Still, we left with incredible memories, the last traces of daylight, and a camera full of mountain views.

If you’re planning a hike in Kananaskis Country, Porcupine Ridge deserves a spot on your list. Just be ready for some stream crossings—and maybe a pair of wet boots!
