Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the India-US trade deal, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritised the welfare of the farming community. Speaking on the agreement, Chouhan stated, 'Diplomacy, development, aur dignity ka Ek kuttam udaharan hai' , emphasising that the deal reflects the vision of a developed India while maintaining the dignity of farmers. He clarified that sensitive sectors, including dairy and agriculture, remain protected and have not been opened to US imports, contrary to opposition allegations. The Minister further explained that the deal aims to boost Indian exports, with products like aircraft parts, gems, and essential oils benefiting from zero tariffs. While certain US goods like life-saving medicines and specific nuts will see tariff removals, Chouhan reiterated that no 'objectionable' or sensitive agricultural products will flood Indian markets, effectively dismissing claims that the deal would harm domestic farmers.
