A Kerala meal is always better with a crispy fish fry by its side. Be it a special occasion or your everyday lunch, you can now make the most delicious fish fry in minutes...
Crispy and spicy fish fry made with kerala style homemade marination. This spicy aromatic fish fry can be eaten as an appetizer or goes well with biryani and some curry.
You can use the marination for any fish and make this recipe. If it is a firm fish, that would be perfect. Frying a fish deep in oil makes the fish hard. So, I would say try to pan fry the fishes. You save lot of oil and better for health.
I would say do not overcrowd the pan when frying the fish. The rice flour coating gives that crispy texture and makes it stay crispy longer. You can adjust the spice level according to your taste. There are different ways of preparing a fish fry. You can do masala fish fry, Indian style pan fish fry and so on.

Fish – 1/2 kg
Ginger – 1 nos
Garlic – 10 or 12 nos
Curry leaves
Red chilli powder – 1 tspn
Coriander powder – 1 tspn
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tspn
Kashmiri red chilli _ 1tspn
Garam masala 3/4 tspn
Pepper powder– 1/2tspn
Lemon juice– 2 tbsp n
Salt –
Oil – 1 tbspn
Water

To begin making the Meen Varuthathu Recipe - Kerala Style Fish Fry, wash and clean the fish well. Drain off the excess water. Set aside.In a mixing bowl, make a thick paste of all the ingredients under “for the Marinade” including ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, lemon, salt adding a little water.Coat the spice mixture over the fish steaks well. Set aside for 30 minutes.Heat a frying pan with the oil, add the curry leaves and allow to splutter for a few seconds.Once the curry leaves are spluttered, immediately add the fish fillets, and shallow fry the fish till done and crisp on the outside. Flip the fillet to even brown on the other side also. Make sure to fry the fish over medium low heat so that they crisp up.
