“The economy maintained stability in overcoming difficulties, and the main development tasks of the year were basically completed in a complex environment with many changes. The Chinese economy has shown strong resilience.”

STORYLINE:
China’s premier Li Keqiang said on Sunday the country's economy had shown "strong resilience".

He made the remarks during an address at the annual session of the National People's Congress which kicked off on Sunday.

“The economy maintained stability in overcoming difficulties, and the main development tasks of the year were basically completed in a complex environment with many changes,” said Li, the top economic official.

China’s GDP growth stood at 3% in 2022, according to Li.

The congress meeting this year is expected to be dominated by the need to shore up a flagging economy after China’s exit from the zero-COVID policy late last year, as well as a government reshuffle that will see Li step down as premier.
