[Materials] Atomic-Resolution STEM of YBCO (Yttrium based superconductor)

Atomic scale structure of an yttrium-based superconductor, YBCO (YBa2Cu3O7) deposited on STO substrate was analyzed using a spherical aberration corrected STEM. While ADF-STEM clearly visualized the interfaces between STO substrate/Ce layer/YBCO layers as well as atomic columns with atomic number dependent Z contrast, EDX mapping identified each atom column including oxygen atom.
