Former Vice President Al Gore spoke with Charlie Rose about his new book, The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change, at 92Y on January 29, 2013.

After playfully taking a bow in response to an audience member shouting "He was elected," VP Gore spoke about why he decided to respect the Supreme Court ruling that ultimately elected President George W. Bush:

"In the U.S. system, there is no intermediate step between a final Supreme Court decision and violent revolution."

Gore continued,

"If we as Americans honor the rule of law, we obey the law. The fact that it was taken up by the Court and decided by the Court in those circumstances meant that it had the force of law...I decided to honor the rule of law."
