After years of collaboration with Alaskan bush pilots, Zlin Aviation built the perfect utility aircraft for demanding conditions. The Savage Outback is an affordable Light Sport (or Experimental) Aircraft with power to spare.
With its category-leading power-to-empty weight ratio of 4.74 lbs/hp (7.33 at MTOW with 505 lb payload), the ECI Titan equipped Outback climbs at up to 2100fpm. Takeoff roll is 60ft with one pilot, or 81ft at MTOW.
The Outback is the result of two years of study and collaboration with experienced Alaskan bush pilots. The goal: to produce a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) as close as possible to being the perfect utility airplane for demanding operating conditions. (The Outback may also be flown under experimental rules in the USA.)

The new airframe design is based on experience in the field with Zlin’s previous Savage models that have been successfully used in the most extreme bush flying activities. The resulting design is light and durable, able to handle more powerful engines, with improvements in safety, payload and performance.The fuselage has been entirely recalculated and redesigned:
it is longer than the Savage Nomad
it offers more tail surface for an improved stability to counteract higher torque
it features a full-motion jack-screw trim system
it offers the possibility of a supersize baggage compartment
it has been reinforced for the installation of more powerful engines
the ergonomics and controls have been configured to allow a PA18 Super Cub pilot to feel totally at home.
The wings offer the same proven airfoil, but have been reinforced to handle higher gross weight. They also offer VGs, long range fuel tanks, and increased flap surface among the options.
The Outback is a fun, safe, robust and easy-to-fly airplane for weekend escapes, but with the blood of purebreds flowing in its veins. Don’t be content with $100 hamburgers; now you can land on the highest mountain slope or glacier, reach the most isolated snow covered village, access that secluded fishing spot or pristine beach to spend a day or a week.
The Outback delivers confidence in the air, is very stable, and offers truly new horizons to pilots, including STOL performance and a cruise speed of 112 mph (180 km/h) at 2.500 rpm with 31” Alaskan Bushwheels and 6” extended landing gear!
