My travel guide to Karpathos Island in Greece, a true gem.

Have you heard of Karpathos Island? I hadn't when I picked up a map of Greece, closed my eyes, placed my finger on the map, and picked out Karpathos Island. But I made a promise to myself: wherever I picked, I would visit, so I did.

The time of year is essential here, as I travel to Karpathos in December, so we are in the off-season. Trying to pick a Greek Island can be overwhelming. We all hear about the favourites, such as Santorini and Mykonos, but where is Karpathos, and what is it like?

Fear not; my video will answer some of your questions. I fly over using Sky Express from Athens and land at 20 degrees, with sunshine, no tourists and as quiet as it gets. In this episode, Christmas is around the corner, but given the weather, you wouldn't think it.

Situated in the Aegean Sea between Rhodes and Crete, this little gem skips the limelight of most tourists. But my word, people are missing out. I rent a car for my duration, book an Airbnb in Pigadia (the island's main settlement) and explore the island.

This video is for you if you want an excellent 16-minute snapshot of the island. I check out Pigadia, Olympos, Frangolimiano Beach, Kasos Island, and Ammopi. The flight to Kasos from Karpathos is only five minutes, one of the shortest flights in the world. I also nearly got stuck on Kasos.

There was not one tourist but lots of amazing locals, and I became the token tourist in town. They chatted with me as I drank their coffee, ate their food, enjoyed their beers, and participated in chatter.

This island is one of a kind. Thanks Karpathos Island! I will be back!
