The green manuring potential of rainfed dhaincha is estimated to be 20 to 40 tonnes per ha in 4 to 5 weeks. This will reduce the nitrogen requirement of rice especially for poor and marginal farmers ( who can not afford to purchase urea) of acid soil of Purulia and other places across the world , apart from its other benefits as organic matter ( improve soil organic matter, increase water holding capacity of soil, improve soil physico chemical character, sequester carbon in soil and soil microbial status etc.). Seed rate was 45 kg per ha.. Currently farmers are puddling it by country plough , pewer tiller and rotavator etc. Entire green manuring was done using rainwater in a raifed rice growing system.
