Samajwadi Party MP and chief Akhilesh Yadav called the first Budget of the third term of the Narendra Modi government "pessimistic" that was aimed at pleasing NDA allies to remain in power. In an exclusive interview with India Today, the Kannauj MP said Uttar Pradesh was ignored in the Budget despite there being a BJP government in the state and Centre.

"Package se sarkar bana rahi hai (the BJP is trying to stay in power by giving packages to its allies)... The budget is an attempt to please NDA allies," Akhilesh Yadav said.

"We are not against giving packages to any state. But don’t discriminate... Don't discriminate against UP," he further said.
