In this episode we learn how to make a sourdough starter in 3 Days (Easy Freezer Meals). This is a very simple process and only requires a few ingredients as well as a calendar.

Recipe:

You will need a scale, a 32oz -64oz glass container with a coffee filter and a rubber band, Unbleached AP flour, and water.

Mix 4oz of flour and 4 oz of water and stir to combine. Clean the sides and cover with a coffee filter. You get to pick the duration of the feedings. If you chose to feed every 12 hours like I did your starter will be completely finished and ready for either use or storage in only 3 days. If you choose the 24 hour feedings your started will be ready in 1 week. Your choice but whichever one you choose be sure to stick to that schedule.

1st feeding: After 12/24 hours add 4oz water and 4oz flour. Mix well and clean the sides. Cover with coffee filter.

2nd feeding: After 12/24 hours remove 8 oz of starter and feed it with 4oz water and 4 oz flour. Mix well and clean the sides. Cover with coffee filter.

3rd feeding: After 12/24 hours remove 8 oz of starter and feed it with 4oz water and 4 oz flour. Mix well and clean the sides. Cover with coffee filter.

4th feeding: After 12/24 hours remove 8 oz of starter and feed it with 4oz water and 4 oz flour. Mix well and clean the sides. Cover with coffee filter.

5th feeding: pour all your starter into a small container and wash your glass jar out. Pour 4 oz of starter back in the jar along with 4oz of water and 4 oz of flour. After this feeding your started should double in size in under 8 hours. If it does then you are finished and you now have an active sourdough starter.

6th and final feeding: If you are storing your starter in the fridge then discard all but 4 oz of starter. Add 4 oz of water and 4 oz of flour. Mix well and place in the fridge. From here on out when you feed your starter make sure you feed it equal weight starter, water, and flour. Keep it cold in the fridge and be sure to feed it once a week.
