The Pickens Railway (PKHP) is an old short line that has already existed since 1890, but the original section of the line through the namesake city was abandoned a few years ago. Nowadays, the railroad operates about 28 miles of track between Anderson, SC and Honea Path, SC. In Belton, SC, Pickens interchanges with the Greenville & Western Railway (GRLW). This railroad began operations between Pelzer, SC and Belton, SC (12 miles) in 2006, after the purchase of this line from CSX. Pickens currently uses mostly GE power of the 1970s and 1980s, i.e., "U-boats" U18B and 4-axle standard cab Dash 8s. Greenville & Western relies on EMD GP30s and even a GP9. In this video, we watch how the interchange between the two railroads works at the Belton Junction Yard. We also follow trains of both railroads and learn how drop switching is done. Enjoy!
