The Canceled James Cameron Spider-Man Movie: The Amazing Spider-Man - Canned Goods

In 1990, Spider-Man found its movie rights at Carolco Pictures, and soon found itself in the hands of James Cameron, fresh off of Terminator 2. Cameron’s take on Spidey was set to be a dark and gritty retelling of his origin, with him fighting Electro and The Sandman as his first villains. Casting rumors swirled that tied Leonardo DiCaprio and Arnold Schwarzenegger to the project, though the project never actually got far enough to cast anybody. The movie was cancelled by a perfect storm of relatively minor issues which all compounded at the worst possible time.

Though, some elements of this scriptment eventually found their way into 2002’s Spider-Man, most famously, Peter Parker’s organic web shooters.
