2020 saw Hawk-Woods retain their innovative title designing new power products for the industry during a very difficult year. Aware the existing X-Boxx range was released 12 years ago, within this time Hawk-Woods had only updated the capacity of this line of batteries as Lithium-Ion technology advanced. This meant the existing line of X-Boxx’s were due an overhaul and could be re-designed with a fresh modern look ready for 2021.

The first battery to be designed within the new range of floor batteries is the MXB-880, first glance at the battery and feedback to date has just been wow! Such a tidy and sleek design, the 880 really gives off that professional look that you would want to run your setup. After listening to various feedback alternative floor batteries on the market have issues with handles breaking or the battery itself toppling over when knocked, not the case with the British hand built MXB-880. You have a solid handle with a strong fixture meaning there is no way the handle can break from the weight of the battery when carried, plus the option to have straps for shoulder carry. Rubber ends to protect the battery itself whilst also acting as an image enhancer.

When you get closer and hands on with the 880 the size vs weight ratio is phenomenal, 880 watts worth of power in a solid little box which weighs around 7kg, nearly a 25% weight reduction from Hawk-Woods previous line. The weight reduction could have been greater however a charger is built into the battery, so you no longer need two pieces of kit with this all-in-one solution. You are still able to charge in via the XLR4 connectors as a backup, so existing XB1 14v chargers are still useable here.

The 880 features dual voltage to cover all your powering needs in an around the cine world, bragging 2x XLR4 14v nominal outputs along with 2x XLR3 28v outputs plus a display providing battery status with run time remaining. You can switch the 28v regulator on an off to ensure when not in use this does not act as a drain on the battery. The display will automatically turn itself off to save any minimal continuous power drains, after all you want the max run times, right?

All in all, we have British manufacturer Hawk-Woods offering up a solid yet lightweight battery with a built-in charger boasting a whopping 880Wh in a small format sleek looking floor battery that is price competitive to current floor batteries available in the market!
