An Israeli company is showing how everyday objects can come alive by using their 3D scanning technique at the CES tech show in Las Vegas.
The Qlone app scans objects in less than a minute, making animations that can be put in an augmented reality mode.
STORYLINE
Commercial 3D scanning has been around for a few years, but this app is speeding up the process.
The Qlone app uses the standard camera on the smartphone to scan everyday objects, such as this toy horse.
It works with the mat that the horse is standing on to calibrate measurements and create a digital representation of the toy.
Ronen Horovitz, CEO of Eye Cue, says you can use your smartphone to make a toy come to life.
"So, Qlone is basically a 3D scanning app, that allows anyone with their smartphone to create 3D content very easily. For AR, VR, 3D printing, for e-commerce showcase of their product. Anything that requires a 3D model."
But the app also animates the content. In this case it makes the horse run around in circles, in the augmented reality mode.
The app was launched in 2018 and has been downloaded one million times.
Ronen Horovitz, CEO of Eye Cue says it simplifies the scanning process.
"AR, VR, 3D in the web - all those things are great -  but the big problem that costs the most is to make the 3D content. Right now you need a 3D modelist or an artist to create that. So, with Qlone, anyone with a phone or a tablet in one minute can actually scan and make a model."
CES 2019, the world's largest tech conference, runs until Friday 11th January.
The top trends this year are the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and high-tech mobility.
