Recipe:

(dough)
500g Type 00 flour (if you cannot use this, find a strong bread flour)
1 pinch salt
20g flour
4g baking soda/sodium bicarbonate
100g butter
3 eggs
2 egg yolks
zest of one orange
zest of one lemon
25ml or 2T anise liqueur
oil for frying
(syrup):
600g honey
100g sugar
zest of one orange
zest of one lemon
candied orange peel to taste
(decoration ideas)
candied orange peel
sprinkles or similar

Sift flour and add the baking soda, salt, and sugar.

Work in butter.

Kneed in eggs, and then egg yolks and citrus zest.

kneed in anise liqueur and continue kneading for a few minutes.

Cover and rest for 30 minutes.

Roll pieces into snake about 1cm (1/2 inch) thick. Cut with a dough cutter into slices about 1/2 to 1 cm thick.

Fry in hot oil until golden brown. Set aside to drain.

Heat the money and sugar together, stirring sometimes.

Once if fully boils, remove from heat, and add the zest and candied orange peel. Let sit 5 minutes.

Toss with the fried dough balls.
