Before anyone starts speculating I got replaced with a Clawdite, I haven't turned to the Reylo side of things, not really. If anything, I mostly made this for @EsmeAmelia as kind of a preview of what things could look like in the swapped-memories pocket universe of Dyad's Blessing, Dyad's Curse (her fic) and its sequel Life As A Dyad. Basically, one subplot in the fic is Rey and Ben having dreams where they basically end up swapping roles, with Ben being the scavenger-turned-hero and Rey being the fallen Skywalker. Of course here, I decided to kind of focus on the swapped-roles version of TLJ or how it might play out: of course here, Rey's interactions with Kylo are different where she is still a Palpatine and Ben's still a Skywalker, and Rey is Palpatine's apprentice/future scion, Ben had a bit of a bad falling out with Luke that he still regrets if not as cataclysmic as in canon, and Rey has a serious case of hating Palpatine but feeling like there's no way she can go against him without losing just because of the possibility of getting possessed by him if she does so, and also feeling like Palpatine and Snoke are the only family she's got left. (Here, I have the headcanon that Snoke is unfortunately her uncle on her father's side, and Rey despises him but also feels like Snoke is a victim of Palpatine in his own right given that she's seen Palpatine manage to mistreat even Snoke at times. Snoke, of course, doesn't want her to feel sorry for him, and as Ben learns, stuff like that is pretty much called "training" among the Sith, much to his utter horror. And yeah, that does have truth in canon given how even back in Legends, abuse among the Sith is pretty much considered normal, with even the "nicer" Sith like Darth Revan having no issue amputating his own apprentice's jaw -- and keep in mind, Revan was considered one of the "nicer" Sith. So you basically have an idea as to how borked the Sith's idea of training is, and even other "nicer" Sith like Darth Traya don't have any issues with psychological manipulation of their apprentices. Deliberate Values Dissonance, basically, as TV Tropes would say. I mean, say what you will about the Jedi, but at least they don't make abuse into a learning experience -- at least intentionally. You can pretty much count on one hand the Dark Siders who are actually good Masters to their apprentices)
(And yes, Uncle Snoke would be a worse uncle than Luke Skywalker)
And yes, Rey does ultimately help save Ben from Palpatine. Just because she isn't letting Palpatine hurt anyone else.
