There’s always a perky presence that springs to life on the Moschino runway—a character who doesn’t trouble herself with irony or deeper meaning. She’s not chasing symbolism; she just wants to look cute. And this season, the prim-and-proper charm of a 1950s ingénue fits her like a glove.

With velvet bows perched in her hair and Betty Boop-worthy heels on her feet, Moschino’s girl knows her aesthetic and sticks to it. There was a moment of full-blown matchiness—a silvery tweed suit glinting with metallic thread, topped off with a snowy Peter Pan fur collar and a bag to match. From there, the collection skipped through a familiar lineup: Chanel-esque jackets, frothy tiered skirts puffed up with tulle petticoats, and a parade of printed day dresses with a wink.

But beneath the sugar rush, a certain predictability is starting to creep in. For all its charm, the show felt like it was ticking boxes rather than breaking ground. Sweet, retro-fueled fashion may be the order of the season, but there’s a fine line between homage and imitation. And while Miuccia Prada continues to turn nostalgia into something complex and compelling, others—Moschino included—seem content to skim the surface.
