North Macedonia's spot in Group C came via the play-offs as they join Netherlands, Ukraine and Austria in the delayed European Championships this season.

Igor Angelovski's men caused one of the most stunning upsets in recent international history in April which will give them a boost going into the tournament.

They ended Germany's 35-match unbeaten run in World Cup qualifying - a streak dating back to 2001 - with a 2-1 win in Duisburg.

Goran Pandev, a 37-year-old striker playing in his 20th year of international football, scored the opener in first-half stoppage time.

At their first major tournament in their 27-year history, the outsiders will face Austria in their first match in Bucharest, Romania.

"This is for us, an historical moment because Macedonia (have) never been part of some European or World championship and this is the first time for Macedonia to be part of a European championship for us...how I say this is a historical moment and the people here celebrate us for that and we are happy for them. And also this is a big responsibility for the national team because we must prepare for a high level because this is a tournament with the most quality teams in Europe. And for that reason we must be preparing ourselves for a high level (of football) and we must believe in ourselves to go there and to show to Europe that Macedonia has the quality."
