This is the FIRST video in the Breaking the Big Words video series using whiteboard animation. This series presents an effective, systematic, syllable division strategy. A step-by-step process is utilized to divide multisyllabic words with instructional implications and illustrations included.

Each video is based on the companion Breaking the Big Words activity set. This activity series provides scaffolded, research-based instruction on dividing syllables, identifying syllable types, and generalizing the skills to decode words and sentences. Great for small groups, differentiation, and intervention!

This activity series provides scaffolded, research-based instruction on dividing syllables, identifying syllable types, and generalizing the skills to decode words and sentences. Each of the activity sets will focus specifically on a single syllable pattern and one or more syllable types.

Each Activity Set of “Breaking the Big Words” employs three levels of scaffolding, embedded differentiation, a strong visual component, developmentally scaffolded activities, and an Instructional framework (Scope and Sequence).
