A 9-year-old boy who was shot earlier this week in Lancaster, Ohio has passed away. Lancaster Police said that the 9-year-old child was shot on Monday and that the child died.

According to authorities, the unintentional shooting occurred at a home on Summitview Drive around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Police say a second juvenile witnessed the shooting.

According to a police report viewed by NBC4, one said, "he would show him what a drunk person acted like". The boy with the gun fired it, shooting himself in the process.

The witness reportedly moved the gun before telling an adult. The 9-year-old was airlifted to a Columbus hospital in critical condition. Lancaster Police confirm that the 9-year-old passed away.
