In this video, Riccardo Alcaro, the JOINT Project Coordinator and Head of Research at Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), explains that the JOINT project, funded by the EU and involving 14 research institutions from twelve countries, aims to explore EU possibilities for cooperation in the Middle East.

He highlights the potential for collaboration between the EU and Turkey in addressing conflicts and crises in various regions, such as Libya, Syria, Palestine, and Iran.

However, he also emphasizes that despite the presence of structural geopolitical interests that could foster greater cooperation, political expediency both within Turkey and the EU may hinder the full realization of this potential. As a result, the relationship is likely to remain more transactional rather than truly pragmatic or structurally cooperative.
