PCOS cannot be cured by laparoscopy. First of all when a woman comes with the infertility issues we start with the medical treatment like we do give the ovulation induction drugs. Here for a few cycles if the woman fails to conceive even after few cycles of ovulation induction then we plan for a surgery which is called as laparoscopic ovarian drilling. This surgery is done in infertility patients in order to promote ovulation. This procedure is done under general anesthesia where we give a small incision over the woman's tummy and after passing the laparoscope we check for the ovaries and we destroy the ovarian stroma and cortex via laparoscopic heat or the laser procedure. Here we destroy the ovarian cortex and stroma so that we can decrease the androgen and inhibin levels and by the destruction of these ovarian stroma and cortex there is a releasing of insulin growth factor which helps to improve the circulation and also it promotes follicular genesis and also produces more number of gonadotropins like the follicular stimulating hormone. This will in turn leads to ovulation.
