Col du Petit Saint-Bernard - South, Road D1090, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France - by motorcycle

Описание к видео Col du Petit Saint-Bernard - South, Road D1090, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France - by motorcycle

The Little Saint Bernard Pass is 2188 metres high and connects the Italian Aosta Valley in the north with the French Isère Valley in the department of Savoy / Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in the south. This mountain crossing was already an important trade route in Celtic and Roman times. In the 11th century, Bernhard von Menthon built a hospice at the top of the pass. Today's pass road is based on a road construction project carried out by Napoleon III of France in the 19th century. The pass forms the border between France and Italy, which was also heavily contested here during the Second World War. Today, there is a cross-border winter sports area here, which stretches from the Italian winter sports resort of La Thuile in the north to the French resort of La Rosière in the south. The road over the pass is closed in winter.

The southern ramp begins in the French village of Séez near Bourg-Saint-Maurice, passes through the winter sports resort of La Rosière and reaches the top of the pass after around 27 kilometres. The road is very well maintained and easy to drive on.
