Hiking PRC 04 FAI - Faial Caldeira - Azores

The PRC4 FAI on Faial is a beautiful hike along the Caldeira. It starts directly next to the viewpoint and provides a convenient parking lot. The Taxi to get there from Horta cost us 25 euro per direction, but it should actually be a lot cheaper, according to the posted prices.

The hike is 6.8km long and covers 240m of altitude and takes you around the rim of the volcano. At an overall altitude of roughly 1000m, the wind can be a factor, but the overall trail does not feature any exposed sections.

The view down into the crater is really beautiful, but the descent is only allowed with a registered guide.

On our hiking trip through the Azores, this was one of the highlights.
