This movie was directed by Praveen Gandhi and produced by Dr.Murali manohar (one of the producer of Jeans movie).
A.R.Rahman was too busy in mid 90s after the success of Roja, Gentle man, Bombay, Indian etc.. Doli Sajake Rakhna was a hindi movie loosely based on directer Fazil's Malayalam movie Aniyathipraavu ( Kadhaluku Mariyathai in tamil). A.R.Rahman composed 5 songs for this movie and all became super duper hit. Murali manohar was very much impressed with these songs and he badly wanted to produce these songs in tamil. So after discussing with the Rahman, he called directer Praveen Gandhi and asked him to start the pre production works for making a Video Album of the Songs. Praveen Gandhi who was in midst of pre production works had a thought of making a feature film instead of a Video Album. He conveyed this idea to producer and rahman. They also agreed for this idea. Then Praveen Gandhi started to write a story, placing these songs in apt places. So Jodi is a movie made only for the sake of Rahman songs. Previously in 1984, R.Sundarajan also had written & directed the movie "Vaithegi Kaathirunthaal" only for the sake of Maestro Ilayaraja's songs.
