In this TEDx talk, Prof. Kamal Ghanshala talks about his journey, when he started from teaching less than a dozen students to becoming a pioneer to starting a Deemed to be University at the height of 2,100 feet in Uttarakhand. When he started his career, he ventured to the capital of the country in search for cutting edge knowledge in the field of computer science. However, he was astounded to look at the current state of education even in the best places in this country. This aspired him profoundly and set him on a journey of becoming an ‘edu’preneur’, in the true sense where he relentlessly strived to make quality education across multiple disciplines easily accessible to all.
While digitalizing H.N.B. Garhwal University's result system, he met honorable Prof. Dr. K.P. Nautiyal, who was then serving as the Vice-Chancellor in the University. Prof. Nautiyal served as the right mentor who allowed him to dream bigger than life and thereby transforming his dreams into reality. Years later, a beautiful auditorium was named in his memory, making him an eternal part of the lives of so many generations of students to come. This mentorship became one of major stepping stones that lead to the formation of Graphic Era Deemed to be University.
Over the years, he conquered every obstacle that came his way and strived valiantly through rough patches dodging many bullets fired by his competitors; to conquer, to dilute and to subsume his dream. “Giving is the key to a fulfilling life. “ This is a maxim that he sincerely lives by: "When you serve something greater than yourself, whether it be your family, your local community, or at a global level, you discover a deeper purpose and create more meaning in your life." He made a successful effort to bind the wounds of others by investing in the construction of Uttarakhand's most advanced hospital with 1100 beds aimed at serving the people of this country. You might be wondering what his constant advice to everyone is as someone who upholds the idea of "Leadership by Example"? - If you understand how important it is to talk the talk and walk the walk, your team will astound you with their high performance, and for a good reason. With a wealth of experience in the classroom and a stellar reputation as a leading expert and top authority on teaching programming languages, data structures, and computer-aided design, he has built the kingdom from the ground up. This proves that when people choose a cause out of a genuine desire to better the world, they are committed to it for the long haul. Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. We must remember that the human mind is our fundamental resource. Thus, it is essential that we work towards the maximum development of every young mind. Only then will we be able to address our requirements for world leadership, our hopes for economic growth, and our demands for able citizenship. Behind this development are the ideas and aspirations of all stakeholders. It is essential to get the ideas right, adopt them and correctly implement them with a focus on reviewing them constantly in the spirit of innovation. Giving “That’s Gold!” advice for new-day entrepreneurship, he has poured his wisdom by asking not to give up, even in the direst of situations, and keeping faith in the journey. Prof.(Dr) Kamal Ghanshala is an engineer, entrepreneur and a philanthropist and posses excellent academic credentials with Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Computer Science & Engineering and Doctoral degree in Computer Science from Kumaon University, Nainital. Prof Ghanshala is a proactive chancellor and a teacher par excellence. He is inarguably, one of the leading experts in teaching of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and ‘C’ language. His plethora of knowledge is not just confined to the four walls of university but also reflected in many research papers he has written and for which he been felicitated, at national and international levels, such as in Croatia, Denmark, Johannesburg, Turkey, London, Paris Germany and Thailand. He has received wide spread recognition for his leadership qualities and management acumen. He is also an avid sportsman.
