This is my Week 4 update of my career transition journey — moving from night shift work to becoming a Data Analyst.
This week, I started working on a real NHS staff turnover data project using SQL.
Instead of just writing queries, I focused heavily on data cleaning, which helped me understand how real-world data analysis actually works.
🔍 What I did this week:
Worked with real NHS staff turnover data
Cleaned messy data with duplicates, missing values, and inconsistent categories
Standardised 15–19 staff groups into 7 meaningful categories
Used CTEs and ROW_NUMBER() to handle duplicates properly
Started thinking in terms of fact tables and dimension tables
Learned how business logic is more important than just SQL syntax
This project is helping me understand how staff turnover can impact the financial health of NHS trusts, and how data analysts support real decision-making in healthcare.
