From July 30th to August 2nd of 2019 newly restored Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 operated over the former mainline of the Chicago & North Western on its Great Race Across The Mid-West. On Day 1 the Big traveled from West Chicago, Illinois to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Day 2 saw the big boy and train running from Cedar Rapids to Des Moines, Iowa. Finally on Day 3 the Big Boy ran from Des Moines Iowa to Omaha, Nebraska. The Big Boy and the UP steam crew put on a great show of the course of the 3 days the 4014 drew huge crowds wherever it went.
