Join us on an unforgettable journey through Wall, South Dakota, and Badlands National Park, where we explore quirky roadside attractions, scenic landscapes, and hidden gems along the way!
Our adventure begins at the legendary Wall Drug, a must-visit stop along I-90. We grab lunch, wander through the fascinating shops, and experience this famous roadside attraction in the off-season—without the usual summer crowds! From its free ice water to its wild west-themed stores, Wall Drug is truly one-of-a-kind.
Next, we venture a few blocks away to Dahl’s Chainsaw Art, home to the World’s Tallest Jackalope! We climb inside and take in the view from the top, snap photos with a carved Bigfoot, and explore the outdoor courtyard, gift shop, and watch the talented artists bring their wood carvings to life.
After leaving Wall, we hit the road for a scenic drive through Badlands National Park. We stop at two breathtaking overlooks before arriving at our hotel in Interior, South Dakota, where we check into the Badlands Hotel and Campground—just one mile from the park entrance! We give a quick tour of the hotel and share what makes this spot a convenient and affordable place to stay near the Badlands.
As the sun starts to set, we head into town for gas at Cowboy Corner, then grab pizza from Wagon Wheel Bar & Grill—the perfect takeout meal for an epic sunset dinner inside Badlands National Park. We find a scenic viewpoint, soak in the views, and enjoy a peaceful meal surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Badlands.
Before calling it a night, we embark on a sunset hike along the Fossil Exhibit Trail, where we explore the unique landscape and learn about the prehistoric past of the region.
The next morning, we wake up early to catch the sunrise from the Window and Door Trails, one of the best places in the park to watch the first light of day illuminate the dramatic rock formations. After that, we take a short drive to hike along the Cliff Shelf Trail, offering a different perspective of the park’s layered rock formations and stunning overlooks.
Finally, we make one last stop at Roberts Prairie Dog Town, where we watch these adorable little creatures scurry about —an entertaining way to end our adventure!
