How to program the garage door opener in your car in 3 easy steps

Setting up your car's garage door opener will only take a few minutes if you follow these three steps:

► Step 1: First, reset your car's controls by holding down the first and third buttons for approximately 20 seconds. You can move onto step 2 once the indicator light flashes rapidly.

► Step 2: Hold your garage's remote control three inches from rearview mirror. Hold down on both the remote and you button you want to program in your car. This should take about 5 seconds. Stop when the indicator light flashes (usually green). Test your car, by holding down the programed button for three seconds. Does it work? If yes, you're done! If not, move onto step 3.

► Step 3: Get a ladder and climb up to the actual garage door opener until. Remove the back plastic cover and find the "learn" button. Mine was red. Press the Learn Button. You now have 30 seconds to get back into your car, turn the car on, and press and hold the button you want to program on your car. The indicator light should now flash green and your car should be successfully programed.
