Scams Against Seniors

It's a sad fact of today's modern life - seniors are considered easy targets by criminals.

Especially when it comes to seniors using digital communications, computers, mobiles, other devices.

Seniors don't always know how to spot or report cybercrimes.

And they may refrain from telling anyone because of guilt, shame or embarrassment.

Some also fear their families will lose trust in their ability to continue to manage their own finances.

So, spare a thought for the seniors in your life and be senior scam aware!

Here are some common cyber scams used against senior citizens...

Tech support scams where criminals pose as support representatives and offer to fix non-existent computer issues. The scammers can gain remote access to victims' devices and their stored sensitive information.
Government impersonation scams involve criminals posing as government employees and threatening to arrest or prosecute victims unless they agree to provide payments.
Financial scams target potential victims by masquerading as legitimate services, such as reverse mortgages or credit repair.
Romance scams commonly target women and recent widows. Criminals pose as interested romantic partners on social media or dating websites.

As always, education is the best prevention so if you are a senior remember this:

Resist the urge to act quickly
Limit what personal information you post
Do research before sending money
Be careful what you download
Verify their identity before sharing private information
