When rhymers hit Vevo for a live session, they're usually part of our rap-centric Ctrl series. MC Jin and Wyclef Jean’s poignant new collab called for something different, however. And since Wyclef is such a talented guitarist, our performance studio was a perfect place for them to share their message. “Stop The Hatred” was inspired by the tragic spate of violence and vitriol leveled against Asian communities this past year. The song's title was coined by Jin’s 8-year-old son, Chance, who recently climbed onstage and shared a message that our society has a hard time embracing: “Stop the hatred!” Wise words. His dad's powerful track contains wisdom, too: “Pray on the weak/Only cowards would do that/Truthfully I wish I didn’t have to write this song.” Jin and Jean have a unique relationship that goes back to the days when the rapper was newly signed to Ruff Ryders after his standout performances on ‘106 & Park.’ It’s been two decades since they first united on “Speak Chinese,” and heroically their main goal continues to be bridging divides. “Mo Mun Tai” is Cantonese for “no problems,” and it definitely distills the message these two OG’s are serving.
