George Clooney and his new bride, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, arrived at Venice's city hall on Monday afternoon to formalise their marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot in a lavish, star-studded ceremony
on Saturday evening, looked thrilled as they sailed to the civil ceremony on a boat named "Amore".

Mr Clooney, long-established as Hollywood's most famous bachelor, grinned and waved as he left the boat alongside his new wife.

Ms Alamuddin wore a cream trouser suit and a large sunhat to Monday's ceremony.

She is understood to have sported several designer outfits during the long weekend of wedding celebrations, but details of the wedding dress she wore to marry Clooney on Saturday have not yet been released.
