(20 Sep 2017) DESIGNER MANUEL FACCHINI INSPIRED BY A MODERN-DAY GEISHA FOR BYBLOS COLLECTION
Manuel Facchini presented his Byblos spring-summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection at the first day of Milan Fashion Week Wednesday (20 SEPT. 2017).
The sleek and modern clothing line seemed to represent two sides of a woman: The practical and everyday verses the feminine and sexy.
Facchini said backstage that he was inspired by a modern-day geisha with Quentin Tarantino-like designs that were worn down the runway to an electronic remix of Uma Thurman's famous movie line: "I'm going to Kill Bill," from Tarantino's "Kill Bill" films. The sleek, yet sexy futuristic lines of the designs, inspired by that of the Black Mamba snake, seemed to play to a woman's strength, juxtaposed with a geisha's feminine side captured in Arthur Golden's "Memoirs of a Geisha."
One important staple featured in the Byblos line was the modern take on the traditional oriental sash, the obi. The streamlined version of the obi is a main detail in Facchini's line which was seen on the model's waistlines and on their shoes.
Facchini's color palette featured bold lime greens, reds and blues over traditional black and white with a lot of emphasis on geometric shapes.
